LONG BIO:
Hannah Hodgson is a writer and activist living with a life limiting illness. She uses both outpatient Palliative Care and hospices for respite and symptom management. Her work has been published by BBC Arts, The Poetry Society, Teen Vogue and Grazia, amongst other outlets. She has spoken on her experiences on Radio 3, 4, and 5. She has her own radio play available on BBC Sounds called 163 Days, which is also the title of her first full length poetry collection (Seren Books, 2022). Hannah has worked with both NHS England on policy writing and lived experience, as well as working alongside Integrated Care Boards, Clinical Commissioning Groups, and financial teams. She works regularly with Together for Short Lives on a variety of projects: from writing her experience, creating resources, and promoting Palliative Care Nationally and Internationally. She has also been working with Hospice UK in an Advisory role for the last 12 months. She has spoken at Parliamentary Receptions with MPs on her experience of the NHS, as well as at events organised by The Royal Society of GPs, The European Association of Palliative Care, and the Hospice UK National Conference 2022 . In recognition of her activism Hannah received a prestigious Diana Legacy Award in 2021, given in the name of Diana, Princess of Wales. Only 20 of these are given out worldwide biannually. She has had four collections of Poetry published by prestigious publishers, each of these centred around personal experiences of Palliation and life alongside ill health. Hannah is an award-winning essayist, poet, and has edited for a variety of magazines.

Hannah Hodgson is a writer living with a life limiting illness. Her work has been published by BBC Arts, The Poetry Review, Magma, and Mslexia, amongst others. Her first collection, 163 Days, was published by Seren in March 2022. The collection has been highly commended in the 2022 Forward Prize and was adapted for BBC Sounds. She won the 2021 Poetry Business New Poets Prize; as well as Northern Writers Award’s for Poetry in both 2020 and 2022. She has three pamphlets, Dear Body (Wayleave, 2018), Where I’d Watch Plastic Trees Not Grow (Verve Poetry Press) and Queen of Hearts (Poetry Business). She writes extensively about her experiences as a seriously unwell person, and also regularly works alongside organisations such as NHS England and charities like Hospice UK to try and close gaps into which she has fallen. She received a prestigious Diana Legacy Award (given in memory of Diana, Princess of Wales) in 2021; only 20 are given worldwide every 2 years for Humanitarian and Social Action Work. Hannah has worked widely in radio (appearing on Radio 3,4, and 5), and has also authored a graphic novella contained within Breakthrough: Our Time (2021, Soaring Penguin Press).
